Historic Panama City

Panama City, the capital of Panama, is a city with a rich history that dates back to the 16th century when it was founded by the Spanish. The city is located on the Pacific coast of Panama and has played an important role in the region’s history.    We took a tour of The Metropolitan Archcathedral Basilica of Santa María la Antigua (Spanish: Catedral Basílica Santa María la Antigua de Panamá.)

The cathedral was built in the 17th century and has undergone several renovations and restorations throughout its history. It features a mix of architectural styles, including Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical. The cathedral is known for its impressive façade, which features two towers, each with a clock and a bell. The interior of the cathedral is equally stunning, with high ceilings, ornate altars, and numerous works of religious art.

The cathedral has played an important role in the history of Panama, serving as the site of many significant events, including the inauguration of several Panamanian presidents and the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1983.

One of the most historic areas of Panama City is the Casco Viejo, also known as the Old Town. This neighborhood was built in the 17th century after the original city was destroyed by the pirate Henry Morgan. Casco Viejo features beautiful colonial architecture, narrow streets, and charming plazas. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist destination.

We stopped at Casa Testa, C. 6a Oeste and found these 2 gems.  I am ready to start an import export business for both of these items.  The beer is a light refreshing brew and the sauce is packed full of flavor without being over powering heat.  If my taste buds are correct it consists of vinegar, mustard, aji chombo pepper, cilantro, turmeric, onion and picante.

Overall, Panama City is a fascinating destination for history buffs, with a rich and varied past that is reflected in its architecture, museums, and cultural attractions.  The city is safe and many locals speak English.  No need to exchange your US currency a bonus.
