Fright Night

In the heart of Aquia Harbour, the spirit of Halloween comes to life like never before. Streets lined with charming houses take on a magical quality as neighbors unite to celebrate this centuries-old tradition.  Now that my little ones are grown I borrow my neighbors kids to relive the magic of being the sugar dealer.

What makes this holiday so special? The history of Halloween can be traced back over 2,000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. Celebrated on the night of October 31st, it marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, a time when the boundary between the living and the dead was believed to blur. To ward off malevolent spirits, people would dress in costumes and light bonfires. With the spread of Christianity, Samhain evolved into All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, but many pagan traditions endured. Over time, Halloween became a blend of ancient Celtic rituals and Christian customs, eventually arriving on American shores with waves of Irish and Scottish immigrants.

Ghosts sway gently from trees, and skeletons dance on doorsteps. It’s a symphony of the eerie and the enchanting, as each house tells its own spectral tale.  I could not resist having a showcase of my creative neighbors bringing the spirit of this holiday alive. Neighbors join forces, transforming their front yards into haunted havens and welcoming families from all corners of the area. It’s a magical evening where bonds are strengthened, and a shared love of this modern-day masquerade.  If you neighborhood is not festive move and come be my neighbor. Besides who does not want free candy.  Stop by Wave Drive and pick up a handful of sugar and whimsical cheer.
