Tucked away is a 41-acre gem that tells the story of the Army of the Potomac’s Winter Encampment in 1863. Take a hike around the 3 earthen artillery fortifications, an old bridge and a corduroy road. Under General Joseph Hooker 135,000 plus soldiers were stationed around the river. There is plenty of parking, picnic areas and facilities.
