Brunswick Maine

Brunswick was first settled in 1628 and officially incorporated as a town in 1739. It was originally part of the Pejepscot Purchase, which encompassed several towns in the area. Brunswick’s early economy relied on shipbuilding, fishing, and agriculture. Downtown features a remarkable collection of well-preserved 19th-century buildings. The Maine Street Historic District showcases a variety of architectural styles, including Federal, Greek Revival, and Italianate. Walking through the downtown area is like taking a step back in time, as these historic structures contribute to the town’s unique character.

One of the flavor highlights was Enoteca Athena.  Not only is their vibe on point they make the best cocktails. We had exceptional service to match the ambience.  It is known for its focus on Mediterranean cuisine and its warm, inviting atmosphere.  The menu draws inspiration from the flavors and culinary traditions of the Mediterranean region. You will experience a variety of dishes influenced by Italian, Greek, and other Mediterranean cuisines. The menu features a selection of small plates, salads, pasta dishes, and wood-fired pizzas, often incorporating fresh, local ingredients.

Until we meet again location: 97 Maine St, Brunswick, ME 04011

Next up on our tour of Flavor town is  Maine Street Bistro located at: 148 Maine St, Brunswick, ME, United States, Maine. Come for happy hour stay for their seafood and plate presentation.  We should have ordered their towers however we were snacking downtown and did not want to fill up at one place.  The building is tied to Harry Winchester Allen was born June 28, 1863. Mr. Allen became a druggist and joined his father, Calvin W., and brother, Everett in the ownership and operation of Allen’s Drug Store at 148 Maine Street, Brunswick. After their father died, Everett and Harry took over the business. In 1922, Everett became sick and died, and Harry ran the business until his death on August 16, 1924. The businesses on Maine Street all closed for one hour so they could attend the funeral and pay their respects.

If you are in the mood for New England style hops and barely with a desire to try all the taps then stop at Sea Dog Brewery.  A short walk across the river to Topsham you will find nestled along the coast the perfect feel at home pub and fare.  This is the companies third location. Situated on the banks of the Androscoggin River, is proving to be a successful venture. The brewpub offered a scenic waterfront setting and continued to serve a wide range of Sea Dog’s signature craft beers alongside a menu featuring pub-style fare. Over the years, Sea Dog Brewery in Brunswick/Topsham has become a beloved establishment in the local community and a popular destination for craft beer enthusiasts. It has gained a reputation for its diverse beer selection, including their renowned Sea Dog Blueberry Wheat Ale, which has become an iconic brew associated with the state of Maine.  Of course we ordered the full flight when in Rome as they say.

The building was originally a sardine canning company.  The building in Topsham was originally constructed as a cannery, where locally caught sardines were processed and canned for distribution. At that time, the building served as a hub for the sardine industry, providing employment opportunities and contributing to the local economy. The founders of Sea Dog Brewery recognized the potential of the building’s unique architecture and waterfront location and converted it into a brewpub, creating a new destination for craft beer enthusiasts.
